Animation is a great way to address Design and Technology, ICT and Art and Design, to name but a few curriculum areas, all at the same time as having fun. Working in 3D with plasticine or in 2D with paper, children use Apple Mac computers to create stop-frame animations.
The Animation process is fairly time-consuming but allows students the opportunity to work in groups, to storyboard ideas and to see the results literally taking shape in front of them.
As well as 15 Apple Macbook computers, the CLC has 15 iSight cameras, 15 flexible ‘goose neck’ camera supports, iStop Motion and the iLife suite of software to ensure that pupils reach their full animation potential. We have included a sample of both 2D and 3D animation which has recently taken place at the CLC.
We are currently showcasing the following animations:
Strand on the Green Junior School - "Macbeth"
Year 5 pupils used animation to create these great interpretations of Macbeth. The pupils story-boarded their ideas in school with their teachers after having studied the play. They then came to the CLC to create their models and to use iStop Motion and iMovie to bring their ideas to fruition.
Cranford Infants - "Giraffe"
Year 3 pupils worked with Apple Mac computers to create this great animation. They came up with the story and then proceeded to animate it using iStop Motion and iMovie, including incorporating the sound effects.
Norwood Green Junior School - "The Elephant, the Lion and the Monkey"
A small group of Year 5 pupils worked together to produce this animation. They story-boarded it, filmed it (using iStop Motion and iMovie) and created a sound-track using Garageband.
