Primary Schools: Cars - Maths in Motion
Cars – Maths in Motion is a piece of simulation software which allows pupils to simulate a virtual Formula 1 car, plan the race strategy, tune the car, qualify and then race a grand prix circuit.
In order to do this the pupils will need to use mathematical skills such as estimation, measurement of angles and distances, ratios, percentages, chance, and basic arithmetic.
Armed with a scale map of the course that they will be racing on, pupils need to plan their speeds for points on the course, their cars overall performance and handling, the fuel stop and the tyre strategy that they will be using based on the weather forecast for race day. After this point they will need to perform practice laps to qualify for their grid position and then finally, race against the other teams.
