City Learning Centres were developed as one of the six key strands which comprised the original Excellence in Cities programme in 2000, the aim of which was to help address educational problems often faced by major cities. There are 105 CLCs nationwide and Brentford CLC is one of two CLCs in the borough of Hounslow, the other being at Feltham.
Brentford City Learning Centre opened in April 2004 and is a multi-media educational centre on the site of Brentford School for Girls. We aim to improve access to, and use of, the latest technology and act as a test-bed for innovation and new ways of working in an environment unlike a school environment.
Brentford CLC has a multimedia specialism and we provide training in video production, audio production and radio and animation, with the aim being to widen participation in multi-media projects and offer imaginative opportunities above and beyond provision that already exists.
We believe that the CLC has the potential to enhance teaching and learning opportunities across the whole curriculum, for teachers, pupils and the wider community, and thereby raise attainment.
